Vintage Hamilton 20 ATM Day-Date Diver withPatina, Signed Crown, Monnin All SS Case

  

This seldom seen vintage Hamilton diver has a black "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial that is in near pristine condition. In person the specks of dust/debris seen in the pictures is visually imperceptible. The lume, which emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. While the lume on the minute and hour hands looks to be fully intact to the naked eye under close scrutiny and as shown in the pictures it shows cracking.

The bezel ratchets smoothly counterclockwise and the insert has aged to a lovely pinkish black combination with the inverted triangle lume complementing the lume on the dial and hands nicely. The beautifully cut Monnin all stainless steel case shows moderate wear with no signs of oxidation.

The outside of the case back is stamped "HAMILTON" followed by "762003-3, ""WATERRESISTANT 20 ATM" and STAINLESS STEEL. " The inside of the case back is stamped "BREVET + 503305" followed by "M. SA, SWITZERLAND, H, HAMILTON WATCH CO" and "SWISS. The Swiss "HAMILTON WATCH Co 762" stamped ESA 536.121 movement with hacking and quickset day and date features is clean and keeps accurate time with both the day and date wheels rolling over as they should. The quickset day function works by unscrewing the screwdown crown , pulling it out to the first position and then turning it counterclockwise until the desired day has been reached.

Please note that the day wheel is in both English and Spanish. The quickset date feature works in precisely the same manner with the exception of having to turn the crown clockwise to advance it forward. The "H" signed crown unscrews and screws back down perfectly as it should. Given the vintage nature of this watch and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) an overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs.

Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 11.5 mm. The crystal adds no measurable thickness. This watch comes on a lightly used maroon NATO strap that complements the insert colors beautifully. Given that this watch is more than 35 years old and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced an overhaul is recommended.

As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
