While the movement runs and keeps accurate time, given that the date wheel does not roll over, that the power reserve is relatively low at about 11 hours and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is needed. Under the severely scratched and spotted crystal this vintage Waltham diver has a textured black dial that is in lovely condition and appears to have begun to show subtle hints of browning. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact, matches perfectly and no longer emits a glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a warm and inviting buttermilk patina. The black bezel, which stiffly rotates bidirectionally, shows wear. The all stainless steel case is in wonderful condition, showing light wear and free of any visibly significant dents or dings. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "ALL STAINLESS STEEL CASE - SWISS MADE - WALTHAM" while the inside of the case back is stamped WALTHAM WATCH CO.

" followed by "SWISS MADE, B 271 Q" and "969 / 4. While the integrity of the crystal appears to be intact, given its condition it should be replaced. Please note that over the past several decades some dust/debris has gotten between between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and landing on the dial. There is also significant spotting on the underbelly and topside of the crystal.

The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss WALTHAM WATCH CO. Stamped manual wind movement is in pristine condition and keeps accurate time. After winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown "WALTHAM" signed crown 10 full revolutions the movement had a power reserve period of approximately 11 hours. During this time it kept near perfect time. The date wheel does not advance.

Given that this watch is over 40 years old, that the date wheel does not roll over and considering that the movement appears to have never been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is needed. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 7 mm.

Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm. Although this watch currently keeps accurate time, given that the date wheel does not advance and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is needed. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.

Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
