Vintage 30 JOHNSON Ethyl GASOLENE Double Sided Porcelain Gas Station Oil Sign

  

Exceedingly rare double sided porcelain JOHNSON "Time Tells" GASOLENE sign. If you know petroliana, you know that this is one that doesn't show up too often.

This sign would have been in a sidewalk stand out in front of service station back in the day. Notice the placement of the two oblong holes at the bottom of the sign where the bolts would have gone through the cast iron base. This sign is a rare survivor.

Beautiful gloss and and shelving to the porcelain. As you can see from the photos there are a number of chips and spots of missing porcelain, but nothing that really detracts from the amazing imagery and display of this rare sign. This sign measures exactly 30 in diameter. There is a slight wave or warp to the sign, but it mounts nice and flat to a wall without any trouble. I'm guessing it would likely flatten out nice if put back into it's proper sidewalk stand.

Just an amazing piece of gas station history that you don't see on the market everyday. Get it while it's here because when it's gone it may be awhile before you see another one come along! Thanks for looking and please check out my other listings!
