Please scroll to the bottom to view all the pictures. Mexico Sterling Silver Green Enamel Snake articulated Necklace. Beautiful Mexican Vintage, Serpent Necklace. Melesio Rodriguez, a fine silversmith who ran the workshop of Margot van Voorhies Carr, known as Margot de Taxco.

Rodriguez was the manager of Margot's workshop for many years; when she closed her shop in 1955, she gave Rodriguez most of her original molds. Melesio (sometimes written as Melecio or Melicio), a gifted artisan, put many hours and much skill into making and assembling this complex enameled sterling piece. As background, After 1979, Registry marks were required I. TR-114 TAXCO which is a registration system which combines letters and numbers with the first letter representing location, the second letter is the first letter of the maker's first or last name and the number represents the order in which the maker registered his mark.

The T represents Taxco, Mexico, the R is the first letter of the maker's first or last name and the 2 shows that his maker was the 2nd individual to register under the letter combination of "TR". There were many variations and exceptions to the above markings put on Mexican jewelry. This Necklace is marked with the initials MR which could mean that it was crafted by Melesio Rodriguez, a long time employee of Margot van Voorhies Carr Known as Margot de Taxco.

He was given permission to use Margot van Voorhies designs and molds for works of his own. They are made from the original Margot molds, by a talented gentleman, Melesio Rodriguez Villalba, who worked with Margot Van Voorhies Carr for 24 years, and now, at 74 years of age, he continues making beautiful pieces. He was responsible for the execution of many of Margot's designs. His artist's registry number of MR. " "TR-114 is widely recognized as one that uses Margot's original molds.
